Brontë museum reopens after refurbishment

January 27, 2010

Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth

The Brontë Parsonage Museum is on Monday, February 1 after an extensive refurbishment reopened to the public. The redesign is the opinion of many visitors asked about what should change. Eventually, this led to a new arrangement of the exhibits. A number of new acquisitions to admire, such as Emily Brontë's character and its geometry box set, which the museum recently through an auction managed to secure. The museum has also recently closed a miniature manuscript of Charlotte Brontë bought. None of these items have been previously exhibited.

The museum also has people in Haworth called to search for stuff that they think it has a connection with the Brontes. So is there a music sheet found at the Haworth church from the time of the Brontes and three bound volumes of the book Family Economist in the possession of Tabitha Brown, a former maid of the Brontes.

Director Andrew McCarthy writes:

We're delighted with the improvements to the Parsonage and sure that these will enhance the experience of visiting. The new casing displays and are allo wing us to show more of the treasures of the museum's collection and more of the collection that relates to the Haworth community in which the Brontes lived. It's wonderful to be Able to exhibit new items which have come to us through the generosity of local people. We've also tried to create the new displays in such a way as to make the Parsonage feel even more like a domestic home and so we hope people will come along and see the new look and enjoy some of the wonderful new displays.

Vincent van Gogh was a fan Brontë

January 19, 2010

Vincent van Gogh was a fan of Charlotte Brontë, as shown by his correspondence. Some of his letters will be exhibited next week at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Brontëblog, in reaction to an article in the New Statesman, which refers to Van Gogh's favorite writers, some research.

In a letter to his brother Theo Van Gogh wrote in 1881:

I do not know if you ever read English books. If so then I highly recommend you "Shirley" by competing Bell, also author of another book, "Jane Eyre". That is so beautiful as the paintings of Millais and Boughton or Herkomer. I found it to Prince Hage and read it in three days out though 't quite bulky book.

In another letter to his brother, the same year, he wrote:

Read at least once and l'amour and la femme, you can 't given, My wife and I and our Neighbors of Beecher Stowe. of Jane Eyre and Shirley Bell of competing. Much clearer and much more things than I can tell you those guys.

And in a letter to Anthon van Rappard in 1882:

It is a shame that the artists here know so little English. Mauve eg enthusiasm when he got into the landscape of Millais Chill October13 saw but they do not believe in the English art and prejudices too superficial in my view. Mauve always says "that is literary art", but does not mention that the English writers like Dickens and Eliot and competing in the Bell and French Balzac eg so amazing 'plastic' as I 't may so express it as puissant as an example or drawing of Herkomer Fildes or Israel. And Dickens himself sometimes used the phrase, I have sketched.

The exhibition The Real Van Gogh: The Artist and His Letters from Saturday to see in London.

Artemis reviews: Wuthering Heights

October 31, 2009

The show 'Wuthering Heights' theater of Artemis from Den Bosch last week premiere. The reviews were enthusiastic:

Clever text Jeroen Olyslaegers, atmospheric direction and acting fierce game. From adolescence to retirement, there is no story that is so familiar and universal as that of the wrenching love and that is the great strength of this performance, which extends over the previous age. Woest The Tomorrow it is ready for it. Cathy and Heathcliff celebrate their untamed passion. Of the six characters is likeable in this one directed by Floor Huygen. That makes the show melancholy but strangely fascinating. As the book. De Volkskrant

Miserable that you feel the play is over, but it is the intention. The misery of the original book they know well across. Deadline.nl
A couple where the sparks of love afspatten, shapes and Alejandra Theus Joris Smit. A special processing stage, where the bare, raw stage, wind machines and natural roughness of the story sounds the more tangible. The thoughtful direction makes an impressive experience of. Brabants Dagblad

On the website of Artemis to read the full reviews. You will find the play list.
